The TNRD is responsible for maintenance of the Navigation Buoy System along the South Thompson and Thompson Rivers.
Coverage Area
The Navigation Buoy System spans from the headwaters of the South Thompson River in the east, near the Chase Bridge, to Kamloops Lake in the west, near the mouth of the Tranquille River.
Use the interactive map below to find locations of navigation buoys and relevant information.
Boating Safety
When travelling upstream (towards Chase), follow the method of red right returning and keep red buoys to your right. Keep red buoys to your left when travelling downstream (towards Kamloops Lake).
The river channel changes with seasonal high water. Aids to navigation are not under continuous observation and are subject to damage or dislocation. Do not rely solely on these aids for navigation, and use local knowledge when possible.
