Kamloops, BC – July 5, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) mourns the tragic and sudden loss of City of Merritt councillor Claire Newman.
Claire was elected councillor for the City of Merritt on October 15, 2022, and previously served as a councillor for the District of Logan Lake, both of which are member municipalities of the TNRD.
The TNRD family offers its condolences, and expresses its sympathy for Claire’s friends and family, and for the respective council members, staff members and residents within the City of Merritt and District of Logan Lake.
“If you can’t see the sunshine, be the sunshine. Claire was our sunshine,” said Robin Smith, Vice-Chair of the TNRD and Mayor of the District of Logan Lake.
Flags outside of the TNRD Civic Building will be lowered to half-mast in mourning of Claire’s passing.
