The Biggest Invasive Plant Workshop in the TNRD is Coming to Pritchard

Kamloops, BC – July 17, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Invasive Plant Management Committee (TNIPMC) is hosting its largest invasive plant workshop this year in Pritchard. Invasive plant specialists from the TNIPMC, Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and Purity Feed will be on site to share information on invasive plants in and around the Pritchard area.

“This free event is being offered to help residents and land practitioners be stewards of the land by learning how to identify and manage key invasive plants that are established, or are just getting a foot hold, in the Pritchard area. We are hoping participants walk away from the workshop with the necessary tools to take action on their lands, and the desire to keep the area natural, resilient and free of invasive plants,” said TNRD Invasive Plant Management Coordinator Coleen Hougen.

Private landowners, land managers and members of the public are welcome to attend and learn about select invasive plants and how to manage them. Participants are welcome to bring their mystery plants for identification.

The field day will take place on July 27, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Pritchard Rodeo Grounds located at 1741 Duck Range Rd.

All participants must register by July 25, 2023. Registration can be done online by visiting tnrd.ca/upcoming-events, or by contacting the TNRD at 1-877-377-8673 or invasiveplants@tnrd.ca.

About Invasive Plants

Invasive plants are plants that do not occur naturally in B.C. The presence of invasive plants can cause environmental and/or economic harm, and some species can harm human health. They are extremely aggressive, reproduce rapidly, and often out-compete crops and native vegetation. Hoary alyssum is one of many invasive plants that is spreading into the Pritchard area. This plant is toxic to horses when consumed.

About the TNIPMC
