Kamloops, BC – June 29, 2020 – 3, 2, 1…Blast off! Summer Reading Club is back at the Thompson-Nicola Regional Libraries. TNRD residents of all ages can participate in this year’s space-themed challenges or log their reading time to earn entries into the grand prize draws.
Registration for all the clubs is now open starting June 29th. Participants can register online at tnrl.ca or by contacting their local TNRL branch.
“Not being able to host the program in person is quite disappointing but it’s important that we continue to help families engage in reading and early literacy activities together,” says Meg Ross, Children & Youth Services Coordinator.
In lieu of in-person programs and activities each club includes optional challenges for participants to complete. Participants can earn points for their challenges or reading logs from July 6 to August 29th. Challenges or reading logs must be submitted to the library by 5 P.M. on September 12th in order to be entered into the prize draws.
Adult Services Coordinator Catherine Schmidt and Digital Services Librarian Joey da Costa combined this year’s Adult Summer Reading Club and Teen Summer Challenge. “We’ve tried to design the clubs this year so that everyone can participate regardless of their access to technology, or even if they just want a break from everything virtual. We’ve also better aligned the clubs so that family members can work towards their goals independently or together”, says Catherine.
Participants who would like to remain low-tech can connect with their TNRL branch to register, pick up resources, and turn in their completed challenges or reading log. Reading logs and activities are also available for pickup through the library’s new Library Takeout service.
The BC Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, with financial support from Libraries Branch, Ministry of Education, and CUPE BC.
