Strong Progress Made on BDO Canada Recommendations

Kamloops, BC — April 8, 2022 — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is making strong progress on acting on recommendations made earlier this year by BDO Canada.

BDO Canada made 65 recommendations to the TNRD in early 2022, following the completion of a forensic audit in December of 2021.

In total, the TNRD is 58% complete on action items that will enhance policies and practices, and address previous gaps. The TNRD has fully completed 25% of recommendations, and another 74% of recommendations are in progress. As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, the TNRD remains committed to acting on all recommendations.

Work has been initiated by a committee of TNRD senior managers, and the Policy Review Committee has endorsed the establishment of Policy Framework and supported policy updates and development.

“I’m proud of the hard work that continues to be done by our entire team,” Chief Administrative Officer Scott Hildebrand stated.

Hildebrand, who was hired in 2020, continued: “We began to take steps to address previous gaps long before the forensic audit process, and we will continue to make progress towards fully implementing these recommendations.”

During 2022, regular updates on enhancing policies have been provided by the CAO during Board Meetings. Senior staff have also provided updates to the Policy Review Committee and Audit Committee. Updates will continue via Board and Committee meetings, the TNRD website and other channels as needed.

To learn more, residents can visit the TNRD webpage: Accountability.

Through this platform, residents can keep up to date on the completion of all 18 action items, and also review background information and facts about the process. Further, the TNRD will be enhancing public reporting on financials, which will be available to view on the TNRD website. More details will be provided at a later date.
