TNRD Requesting Volunteers for Accessibility Advisory Committee

Kamloops, BC – April 20, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is requesting volunteers to participate in the new Accessibility Advisory Committee, to help guide the creation of the TNRD’s Accessibility Plan.

As required in the Accessible British Columbia Regulation under the Accessible BC Act, all local governments in B.C. must develop an Accessibility Plan and create a tool for the public to provide feedback on accessibility by September 1, 2023.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee will advise the TNRD on identifying barriers to accessibility and inclusion that may be experienced by members of the public or TNRD staff. Barriers may be present in the built environment, information and communications, or the delivery of programs or services that are within the TNRD’s jurisdiction.

The Committee can have up to 10 members, including:

  • At least five (5) persons with a disability or disabilities, or individuals who support or represent organizations for persons with disabilities;
  • Two (2) community members;
  • One (1) Indigenous community representative;
  • One (1) Electoral Area Director; and
  • One (1) Municipal Director.

The deadline to apply to the Committee has been extended to May 11, 2023. Members of the public who wish to join the Committee can contact accessibility@tnrd.ca directly, or can fill out our online form by clicking here. To view the Terms of Reference for the Committee, click here.

The creation of an Accessibility Plan provides an opportunity to review how accessible that physical and digital spaces are within the TNRD, to identify where obstacles may exist, and to plan for any necessary improvements.
