Temporary Interruption for Recyclable Paper and Packaging Collection

Kamloops, BC – July 3, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has temporarily suspended collection of residential packaging and paper effective Monday, July 3, 2023, due to hauling supply shortages, at the following solid waste facilities:

  • Boston Flats Eco-Depot*
  • Clearwater Eco-Depot
  • Louis Creek Eco-Depot
  • Lower Nicola Eco-Depot*
  • Paul Lake Transfer Station
  • Sun Peaks Transfer Station

This service interruption affects a number of recyclables collected through the Recycle BC residential collection program, including paper, paper packaging and cardboard, plastic containers, cartons and paper cups, aluminum containers, steel containers, glass bottles and jars, flexible plastics, and foam packaging. Residents who use the solid waste facilities listed above are asked to please hold on to these packaging and paper recyclables until regular collection can resume at these sites.

Please note that the Boston Flats and Lower Nicola Eco-Depots will be able to receive these recyclable products beginning on July 4, 2023 at approximately 10 am. A further temporary service interruption may be possible at these sites for the coming days, and the TNRD will advise promptly if any interruptions are imminent.

This service interruption for all listed sites is anticipated to be short-term, and is expected to last for approximately 1 to 5 days. The TNRD will share further information as these solid waste facilities resume regular operations once collection supplies have been replenished.

“We apologize to customers for the inconvenience, and we are working with Recycle BC and their service providers to restore service to affected locations as soon as possible to minimize impacts to customers,” said Adriana Mailloux, TNRD Solid Waste and Recycling Manager.

Customers should be aware that there are no impacts to other collection streams, including garbage and, where accepted, large appliances, scrap metal, propane tanks, tires, electronics, small appliances, paint, pesticides, flammable liquids, batteries, cooling appliances, used oil, and commercial cardboard.
