Pinantan Playground Grand Opening

A grand opening ceremony was held for the newly upgraded Pinantan Playground on Wednesday, August 12.

Kamloops, BC – August 12, 2020 – Pinantan Playground has been upgraded with new equipment, including a multi-level structure with two slides, ground level panel boards and climbing activities, a large tower with spiral staircase, and a fireman’s pole.

“The Pinantan Playground is a great addition to the community and gives our kids another place to get outside and stay active,” said the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. “Modern recreational infrastructure like this playground provides safer and improved spaces for families and children. Canada’s Infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds stronger communities.”

“It’s important that communities have places like this playground to get outside and stay active safely,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Selina Robinson. “Investments like these in communities around the province are important to our government and I am pleased to see the Thompson-Nicola Regional District working to promote the health and well-being of their people.”

“The federal Gas Tax Fund supports improvements for a wide range of community infrastructure, said Mayor Maja Tait, president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities. “These upgrades will provide a wonderful recreation area for children in the Pinantan Lake area, and appreciate the contributions of all concerned to make this project possible.”

This project was made possible thanks to a contribution of $85,500 through the federal Gas Tax Fund and $15,000 from the Pinantan PAC which has been fundraising for more than a decade for a new play space. The total for the construction of new playground equipment was $100,500.

The partnership between the District, the Pinantan PAC and the TNRD assured that the chosen playground was designed for use by all kids in the community, whether or not they’re of school age.
