Open House for Smith Pioneer Park Improvements

Kamloops, BC — March 11, 2022 — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will be holding an open house to inform residents about an improvement project that will be taking place at Smith Pioneer Park in Lower Nicola.

The open house will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Lower Nicola Community Hall, located at 2383 Aberdeen Rd.

Phase 1 of the improvement project at Smith Pioneer Park will be taking place in 2022. The work during Phase 1 will include significant upgrades to existing infrastructure in the park, improvements to public safety, additions including a bandshell and a picnic shelter, and various landscaping and tree planting. Phase 1 of the project is being funded through the federal Canada Community Building Fund (CCBF). During the Board of Directors Regular Meeting on February 24, 2022, the Board approved allocating up to $336,500 from the CCBF to fund Phase 1 of improvements.

Currently, Phase 2 of the project is expected to take place in 2023, which will include a new pickleball court and basketball court, park benches, outdoor fitness stations, a perimeter path, and various landscaping and other additions.

Residents are welcome to attend the open house and ask questions to TNRD staff and view renderings of the project.
