Learn About Your TNRD Services and Property Tax Impacts

Kamloops, BC – November 14, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has created intuitive financial materials for property owners to better understand what TNRD services that they receive and how much money that they contribute to each service. During the planning process for the 2024 Budget, residents are encouraged to review this material, provide feedback, and ask questions.

New infographics show residents the proposed 2024 tax rates per $100,000 of assessed property values by TNRD service, which are separated for each Electoral Area and Member Municipality. New materials have also been created to illustrate how tax rates are calculated for TNRD services, and to explain roles and responsibilities of each level of government.

To view these materials and find more information about the proposed 2024 budget, and to provide feedback visit the Budget Highlights & Engagement webpage at: tnrd.ca/budget2024. Infographic materials are included as printable PDF documents on the webpage.

Further, the Fall 2023 Regional Newsletter includes information about how to provide feedback on TNRD taxes and services. This newsletter is mailed directly to Electoral Area addresses.

“Displaying tax rates by service in an easy to read format should help residents understand exactly what services make up the TNRD line item that shows up on their tax notice in the spring, and how much each service costs,” said Colton Davies, TNRD Communications Manager. “Regional district budgets are complex, and TNRD services can vary greatly by community, or even for properties within a community. It’s important that we do what we can to help property owners understand exactly what their contributions to the TNRD pay for.”

TNRD staff hosted an in-depth budget workshop during a special Committee of the Whole Meeting on November 8, 2023. A timestamped recording of that meeting can be found on the TNRD YouTube channel, by clicking here.

The provisional TNRD Budget will be presented during the Regular Board Meeting on December 14, 2023. Following any further revisions and finalized BC Assessment values being made available in early March, the 2024 TNRD Budget (2024-2028 Financial Plan) will be adopted at the Regular Board Meeting on March 21, 2024.
