Introducing the Aberdeen Tiny Library: TNRL’s Charming Next Chapter

Kamloops, BC – November 20, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) is delighted to unveil its newest (and smallest!) library, bringing the joy of reading to the heart of Aberdeen Mall and southwest Kamloops.

With a soft launch set for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the TNRL warmly welcomes the community to enjoy a taste of TNRL through this cozy 352 square foot library, conveniently nestled adjacent to the Aberdeen Mall Food Court.

As a special treat, the first 1,000 visitors will receive exclusive Aberdeen Tiny Library swag.

The Aberdeen Tiny Library will be open Wednesday through Saturday, 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For added convenience, self-serve options such as holds pickups and additional return drop boxes are accessible during all mall hours.

Reminiscent of the charm of a tiny home, the cozy space will invite visitors to browse and borrow from a range of new, popular, and bestselling materials for all ages.

“We’re thrilled for this exciting new chapter for library service in southwest Kamloops, and to bring the library closer to home for thousands of residents who live inside and outside city limits,” said Margo Schiller, Manager of Kamloops Libraries & Engagement. “While this is the smallest library in the Thompson-Nicola region, patrons will have access to many library materials and programs at the Aberdeen Tiny Library. We encourage patrons to come see us at Aberdeen Mall and see what’s in store.”

Marking an historic milestone, this will be Kamloops’ first additional library since 1974. The TNRL has a lease agreement in place for one year at this Aberdeen Mall location, with an option for renewal. While celebrating this accomplishment, TNRL remains committed to exploring opportunities for a full-service library in southwest Kamloops.

Details on an exciting grand opening event at the Aberdeen Tiny Library early in 2024 will be coming soon.
