TNRL Partners with Big Little Science Centre to Provide Free Passes

Kamloops, BC – January 18, 2023 – Access to fun and hands-on science is only a library card away. The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) and the Big Little Science Centre Society have teamed up to offer free passes to the Big Little Science Centre (BLSC) for patrons to borrow with their library card.

Just in time for Family Literacy Week in B.C., which takes place from January 22 – 29, 2023, these passes provide an invaluable opportunity for TNRD residents to unplug and find different ways to explore, discover and learn together.

“Beyond books, we are proud to offer enriching experiences for our patrons to ‘check out’ from their closest TNRL location,” said TNRL Manager of Discovery and Support Services Jenny Abramzik. “This exciting new addition to our collection of community passes builds on the success of our BC Wildlife Park Pass and our Family Fitness Pass program with the City of Kamloops and the City of Merritt.”

Located at 458 Seymour St. in downtown Kamloops, the BLSC is dedicated to developing a passion for science in the community. The science centre was created in 2000 by Gordon Gore, a retired science teacher at the time who dedicated his life to teaching science in an interactive environment.

“The BLSC is excited about this partnership. It allows community members who may not have had an opportunity to visit the science centre the chance to do so,” said BLSC Executive Director Gord Stewart. “With our hands-on interactive science centre, we hope to expose more people to the excitement and fun of science.”

The pass is valid for one visit per group, which is described as:

  • up to two adults and all dependent children 18 years of age and under; or
  • up to two grandparents with grandchildren who are siblings.

Patrons can place a hold on the pass at tnrl.ca, or through their local library. The pass may be borrowed for up to one week. Only one member of the group is required to have a valid library card to acquire the pass.

The pass is the newest addition to the TNRL’s “Extreme Lending” program, which is a commitment to healthy communities through experience passes to help patrons discover, learn and grow.
