TNRD Flooding Update Nov. 16, 2021

Thompson-Nicola Regional District is aware of multiple properties that have been completely cut-off due to the flooding. Communications within flood affected areas has also been impacted, in many cases calls can go out but can not be received by residents in those affected areas. RCMP is working to locate residents and assess properties that have been isolated because of road/ bridge damage.

Residents that have medical concerns may require special assistance are being asked to contact the TNRD EOC at 250-377-7188. Friends and family of cut-off residents may also contact us. For immediate medical emergencies call 911.

Residents along Highway 8 trying to leave the area are being asked to use Highway 97C and avoid travelling towards Merritt or Spences Bridge because of damage to roads and bridges. Access into Merritt is restricted at this time. Always check DriveBC before you travel: https://www.drivebc.ca/#mapView&ll=50.670374%2C-122.121122&z=8

Major routes into and out of Lytton area have been compromised, but communications in the Lytton area appear to be uneffected at this time.

Communication infrastructure servicing the Spences Bridge area has been impacted, Telus will update on its restoration as soon as they can access Highway 8. The water system servicing Spences Bridge is intact and functioning on back-up power.

The City of Merritt remains on Evacuation Order, the TNRD has issued Evacuation Orders for Brookmere and two properties along the Coldwater River. A State of Local Emergency has been issued for Electoral Area ā€œNā€ (Beautiful Nicola Valley ā€“ South). Electoral Areas I, N, and M remain on Evacuation Alert because of the concern of egress route and critical infrastructure.

Residents are encouraged to follow conventional and social media channels and to sign up for Voyent Alert to stay up to date on the latest orders and alerts from the TNRD: https://www.tnrd.ca/services/emergency-services/emergency-alerts/
