TNRD and CUPE Local 900 Ratify New Two-Year Agreement

Kamloops, BC – April 24, 2024 –  The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is pleased to announce that a new two-year collective agreement has been ratified with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 900, which expires on December 31, 2025.

The new agreement includes a 4% pay scale increase as of December 31, 2023, as well as a 4% wage increase retroactive to January 1, 2024, and a 3.5% wage increase effective as of January 1, 2025. Other highlights of the agreement include flexible work scheduling options for employees and modernizing the terms of the labour management committee. The parties also made several updates to language in the agreement to meet the needs of the organization.

“This agreement was reached amicably, professionally, and respectfully, and proves the strong working abilities between the TNRD and CUPE,” said TNRD Board Chair Barbara Roden. “The agreement is acceptable for all parties, and it provides certainty for our CUPE staff members. The Board also appreciates the hard work of TNRD staff to reach a fair agreement.”

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this bargaining round. The cooperation, understanding, and professionalism shown by the TNRD bargaining team was exemplary,” said CUPE Local 900 President Ken Davis. “We feel the end result is an agreement that both parties are happy with, and one that leaves our members feeling respected and valued.”

The TNRD has approximately 50 CUPE staff members in the organization in departments such as building services, community and emergency services, fire protection, finance, general administration, legislative and GIS services, planning, utilities, the Thompson-Nicola Film Commission.
