Thompson-Nicola Film Commission

The TNFC is a full-time, full-service film commission. Founded in 2000, the film commission markets the Thompson-Nicola region worldwide, and facilitates all types of motion picture productions.

In 2021, despite global economic challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, film production companies spent more than $8.5 million directly within the Thompson-Nicola region, which resulted in approximately $25 million in induced spending. Crews spent 329 days filming within the TNRD boundaries in 2021 The value and amount of production were both record-hights.

Grant Funding

Grant funding received by the TNRD enables more community infrastructure projects to proceed, leading to improved services in rural areas and positive economic impacts for jobs created. 

In 2021, the TNRD received more than $3.1 million in grant funding for local projects; which included additions to the Blackpool and Vavenby Fire Halls, improvements to Smith Pioneer Park, Loon Lake Community Hall, 70 Mile Volunteer Fire Department, Blue River Community Water System and many more.

Tourism Marketing

The TNRD undertakes Tourism Marketing activities for the Avola and Blue River areas of Electoral Area “B,” to support continued economic growth in the area. 

Community Forest Feasibility Study

In September 2021, a Community Forest Agreement (CFA) Feasibility Study was completed for the TNRD. Below is a compilation of information describing the benefits and risks of the TNRD potentially becoming a holder of a CFA.
