Public Encouraged to Participate in TNRD Accessibility Survey

Kamloops, BC – June 26, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) invites residents to take its short Accessibility Survey and provide feedback on accessibility at TNRD owned and operated facilities.

The TNRD is taking steps towards developing an Accessibility Plan, which will identify barriers to accessibility and inclusion that may be experienced by members of the public or TNRD staff. Barriers may be present in the built environment, information and communications, or the delivery of programs or services.

The survey is open from June 26 to September 1, 2023, and gives respondents the opportunity to provide feedback on physical properties and online platforms that belong to the TNRD and comment on their own experiences relating to accessibility.

The survey can be accessed online by clicking here, or visiting: tnrd.ca/surveys. Alternately, a downloadable paper copy of the survey can be found here. The TNRD strives to make participation in this survey available to all residents. Those who require an alternate method to participate in this survey are encouraged to contact the TNRD by emailing accessibility@tnrd.ca.

Further, to provide guidance on accessibility needs and feedback for drafting the Accessibility Plan, the TNRD has now established an Accessibility Advisory Committee. Following a public invite for participation in the spring of 2023, the TNRD has formed this committee which includes 10 individuals with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. The committee includes eight members of the public, District of Clearwater director Merlin Blackwell and Electoral Area “O” director Jill Hayward.

“This committee is a great way to get feedback from a dedicated group of people who can share their lived experiences of navigating a world that isn’t always easy to access for them,” said director Blackwell, chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee. “We look forward to a strong response to the survey from the general public so we can move this great committee forward in the most informed way possible. Very exciting by the energy in the room after our first meeting.”

Creating an Accessibility Plan is a requirement in the Accessible British Columbia Regulation under the Accessible BC Act. For more information, please visit tnrd.ca/accessibility.
