Kamloops, BC – April 11, 2023 – Please be advised that construction activity has resumed at Smith Pioneer Park in the community of Lower Nicola, in Electoral Area “M” (Beautiful Nicola Valley – North).
Smith Pioneer Park will remain open during construction but the public is asked to give space in areas where construction is active. Some areas may be fenced off during construction, and work will be ongoing in 2023.
Currently, a new bandshell is being constructed on the northwest section of the property, which is the final step of phase one of improvements in Smith Pioneer Park. In 2022, new playground surfacing was added, new picnic shelters were installed, pickleball lines were added to the tennis courts and other minor improvements were made. A number of projects are planned to be included in phase two of construction, including a new basketball court, outdoor fitness equipment, and improvements to the walking path and parking lot. Upgrades have been funded by the Canada Community Building Fund.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) appreciates the public’s patience as work continues towards improving this community amenity in Lower Nicola.
