Kamloops, BC – November 6, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) anticipates billing utility customers by November 10, 2023, for water consumption during the period of July 1 – September 30, 2023, with payment due in 30 days.
In 2023, approximately 1,100 customers of TNRD Community Water Systems have now converted from flat rate to consumption-based billing. To ensure accurate and complete billing with this significant change, staff have been dedicated to developing necessary changes to the billing process as part of preparing utility statements for the third quarter of 2023.
Water system customers will also notice an improved and simplified layout to their utility bill statement when it is received. To help residents understand changes to the layout of their invoice, information will be included in the Fall 2023 Waterworks Newsletter that will be mailed concurrently with utility bills.
Please note that charges in arrears as of December 31 of the current year will be transferred to the real property taxes and collected as taxes in arrears. The current property owner is responsible for water accounts unpaid by former owners or occupants.
The TNRD thanks customers for their patience during this billing period. Staff look forward to defining an updated billing and payment schedule for customers in accordance with new consumption-based billing processes.
A project to install water meters on all TNRD water system connections was completed in Spring 2022, and this project was fully funded by grant funding with no taxation impact to utility customers. This project is crucial to ensuring that water system customers only pay for their actual usage, and near real-time reporting of water meters has allowed system leaks to be quickly identified and isolated, leading to significant improvements in water conservation.
