Grade 3s are VIPs at the Library!

Kamloops, BC—September 23, 2020—An exciting library initiative is coming back to grade 3 classrooms this fall. The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library is bringing the Grade 3 VIP Library Card Campaign to students in School District No. 58 Nicola-Similkameen and School District No. 73 Kamloops/Thompson.

“For many grade 3 students, reading on their own is a newly acquired skill,” said Meg Ross, Coordinator, Children’s and Youth Services. “Especially right now, we want to recognize that achievement and support these students in becoming lifelong learners by ensuring that they have access to all the fantastic free materials our public libraries have to offer.”

Registration forms will be sent home to parents in the two districts during the first weeks of school. Students will then receive their brand new library cards along with a welcome letter from Acorn, the campaign ambassador, in a special package delivered to their classroom. To learn more, check out the Grade 3 Library Campaign video below.

As an added incentive, the classes with the highest rate of participation in the campaign will receive a $50 Chapters gift card to purchase books for their classrooms and a special visit from Acorn. “We count every student who returns their form as participating,” said Ross, “regardless of whether they sign up for a new card or not. This way we can still recognize the students who are already active library members.”

Students engaged in distance learning, homeschooling, or living in TNRD communities outside of School District No. 58 or School District No. 73 are also encouraged to participate by contacting their local library or emailing grade3vip@tnrd.ca.
