Kamloops, BC – July 27, 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s solid waste Free Disposal Days have been cancelled for 2020.
Free disposal days are hosted annually at all twenty-six TNRD solid waste facilities in April and May. Due to COVID-19, the annual Free Disposal Days were initially postponed; however, the uncertainty surrounding the length of time that gathering size restrictions will be in effect by the provincial government has led to the difficult decision of cancelling all Free Disposal Days for 2020.
During the height of the pandemic, the TNRD waived the fees for residential bagged garbage in an effort to protect workers and residents over a ten week period. Approximately $50,000 in fees were waived.
