Director Kershaw, Chief Savage Presented Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award

Kamloops, BC – July 7, 2022 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) would like to congratulate one of its area directors and fire chiefs who were honoured with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award.

Bill Kershaw, Director for Area “O” (Lower North Thompson) and Mike Savage, Fire Chief of Blackpool Fire Rescue, were each presented with a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee certificate and lapel pin during a ceremony on June 12, 2022 at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.

The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to their communities through public service and local volunteer service. Nominations were made to Member of Parliament Frank Caputo’s office. A non-partisan committee then selected 70 individuals for the award, which was presented by MP Caputo during the recent ceremony.

Kershaw has lived in the Barriere area for more than 50 years. He has been an active volunteer in the area and has served on the Barriere Improvement District, Barriere District Council, Chamber of Commerce and other boards and societies. He was a TNRD area director from 1996 to 2005, and 2011 to present.

“Bill Kershaw has volunteered countless hours for this community. He continues to epitomize community member in the truest sense of the words,” Kershaw’s nomination form stated.

Savage served with the RCMP for 35 years before retiring in 2016. He has also been a firefighter since 1993, spending 23 years serving in the North Thompson and six years in Fort Nelson. He is also Admin Chief of the Little Fort Fire Department and Deputy Chief of the Clearwater and District Road Rescue Society.

Savage was nominated for the award by Area “A” (Wells Gray Country) Director Carol Schaffer. In 2012, he was also a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

“I cannot do the job I do without the support of a dedicated team of volunteers and that of my family, who allow me the extra time to make our emergency services teams as good as they can be in providing the services that they do,” Savage stated.

The Queen’s Jubilee Platinum Award is being presented in recognition of the Queen’s 70th anniversary on the Throne, according to the Government of Canada.

The TNRD congratulates all residents who are recipients of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award.
