Crack the Case With Summer Reading Club at the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library

Kamloops, BC June 7, 2021 – Let the mystery of the 2021 Summer Reading Club begin!

The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Club (SRC) is “Crack the Case”. The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) is looking forward to sharing some exciting mystery-themed activities. Babies, children, teens, adults – there is a summer reading club for everyone!

Registration for all clubs opens at 10:00 am on June 7th at all TNRL branches or through TNRL.ca. Reading records can be picked up from any library branch or can be printed at home from the library website. The goal of SRC is to encourage a love of reading and ensure that everyone can meet their reading goals. Any reading done between June 28-August 21 can be counted as part of SRC.

Teens should take note that if they register between June 7-28th they will be entered into an additional prize draw. “Teens are a traditionally underserved population in libraries and our goal this year is to change that,” says Joey da Costa, Coordinator of Digital Literacy & Teen Services. “We hope that getting the word out more broadly and encouraging teens with this registration contest will help us engage more teens this summer.”

This year the library is piloting a new group SRC program in Kamloops and Clearwater to help engage children who are in childcare centres. Participating groups will be able to log their reading as a group and earn entries towards prize draws at the end of the summer, which will include books, literacy tools, and educational toys for the centre. “We are very excited to test this idea as we know that many children spend their summers in childcare. We want to ensure all children in our region have the opportunity to participate in the activities and literacy of Summer Reading Club!” says Meg Ross, Coordinator of Children and Youth Services.

All ages should be sure to follow the library’s blog this summer, as activities & book recommendations for all ages will be posted on an almost-daily basis. Offline versions will be available by request through Library Takeout.

The TNRL gratefully acknowledges the generous financial support of the Province of British Columbia, through Libraries Branch, and of CUPE BC in making the BC Summer Reading Club possible. The Library also appreciates the support of the Canada Summer Jobs program, which enables the library to hire Summer Program Assistants.
